What you'd do
Works closely with Industrial Designers through the various stages of New Product Development.
Provides engineering expertise in the selection of raw materials and manufacturing processes, as well as structural designs and compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Works closely with Computer Aided Design Technicians in the preparation of fully detailed 3D CAD models for structural and hydrodynamic analysis.
Develops and maintains databases of material properties via technical data sheets or through experimental testing.
Performs stress analysis via FEA software on various marine structures including but not limited to: seats, fasteners, trailers, superstructures, platforms, ski pylons, hulls/decks/stringers made of fiberglass composite, aluminum or plastic.
Determines appropriate safety margins based on sound engineering practices and appropriate regulatory standards.
Works closely with sourcing staff and vendors in the screening, evaluation, and comparative testing of current and future raw materials.
Employs design of experiments and various ASTM, ISO, or ABYC standardized mechanical testing to determine suitability of materials for specific applications.
Works closely with fiberglass tooling shop technicians to gain an understanding of the open and closed molding techniques. Works hands-on to build multiple molded parts or production tooling molds.
May perform some aspects of Computer Aided Design such as 3D modeling, technical drawings, component packaging, etc.
