JLG began in 1969, when our founder, John L. Grove set out to resolve growing safety concerns in the construction industry. Since then we have been committed to understanding the challenges and delivering innovative solutions to the access market. We partner with customers to provide quality equipment, training opportunities and trusted support within the access industry. We are a global company, and our products—including mobile elevating work platforms, telehandlers, utility vehicles and accessories—can be found all over the world.
Assist the Manufacturing Engineering department in successfully achieving manufacturing goals and contributing to simulation and continuous improvement efforts. The Manufacturing simulation Intern will receive assignments from the Manager of Manufacturing, or an assigned representative, and will be encouraged to contribute ideas and suggestions.
What you'd do
- Collaborate directly with engineering to build discrete event simulation models aimed at identifying plant bottlenecks, evaluating staging capacities, and testing "what-if" production scenarios.
- Assist in developing and linking digital twins of manufacturing cells and robotics using tools like FlexSim, Emulate3D, and NVIDIA Omniverse.
- Analyze cycle times, station configurations, and operator movements to support assembly line balancing and optimize plant throughput.
- Work with real-time industrial sensor and PLC data to feed live operational inputs into your simulation models and custom Ignition dashboards.
- Use AutoCAD or similar CAD tools to create and revise 2D/3D plant layout drawings to support simulation setup and material flow planning.
- Research, test, and champion new digital factory tools and automation technologies to keep our manufacturing facility at the cutting edge.
- Participate in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives, time studies, and other engineering projects as assigned.
- All other duties or projects as assigned.
What they want
- Student working towards a bachelor’s degree in data analytics, Industrial engineering, Manufacturing or mechanical engineering or computer science
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Working towards an advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) with a research focus or coursework directly related to Digital Twins, Industrial simulation, Controls Engineering, or Robotics.
- Experience or coursework in developing discrete event simulations, robotics simulations, (FlexSim, Emulate3D, Omniverse, etc.).
- Strong programming experience in Python (or other languages like C++ or C#), with a strong preference for experience in developing NVIDIA Omniverse Kit applications, extensions, or microservices.
- Basic understanding of controls engineering, PLC systems, or working with industrial sensor/IoT data.
- Familiar with lean manufacturing principles, six sigma or industrial process optimization.
- This role combines office-based administrative duties with physical activity in field or production environments.
- In the office setting, tasks may require extended computer use, sitting, and attending meetings.
- Field or floor work may involve walking across various terrains or shop floors, standing, moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, and exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.
